Hotpoint Washing Machine F11 Error: Meaning, Causes & Safe Checks

F11 Likely needs an engineer Engineer only

Quick answer

Hotpoint F11 is a pump circuit fault: water stays in the machine because it isn’t being pumped out. Hotpoint treats it as an engineer fault rather than a blockage (blockages usually show as F05). Switch the machine off and book a Hotpoint engineer. Don’t keep restarting it.

What F11 means on a Hotpoint washing machine

Hotpoint’s UK service page describes F11 as a pump circuit fault: water stays in the machine and isn’t pumped out.

Applies to: Hotpoint washing machines. Indesit uses the same F11 code.

About Hotpoint F11

Hotpoint washing machines show F-codes from F01 to F18. Models without a display show the code as a pattern of flashing lights, which Hotpoint’s UK service site can decode.

This page follows Hotpoint UK’s own article, Washing machine error codes troubleshooting guide. Hotpoint shares this code family with Indesit F11, but each page follows its own brand’s wording, figures and service route.

Likely causes

Why this isn’t a DIY job

Hotpoint separates F11 (an electrical fault in the pump circuit) from F05 (a blockage you can check). Testing the pump circuit means working on wiring inside the machine. With water still in the drum, keep the machine switched off and the water supply off until the engineer arrives.

What to do now

Stop and call a qualified engineer if:
  • The code or problem comes back after you’ve done the safe checks on this page.
  • The next step would mean removing a cover or panel, or working on the pump, valves, heater, motor, door lock or wiring. That is a job for a qualified engineer.
  • Water is leaking from inside the appliance or is near the plug or socket. Don’t touch the plug with wet hands or while standing in water. Switch off at the consumer unit instead.
  • The appliance is still under warranty. Contact the manufacturer first, because DIY work can affect your cover.

There are no safe repair checks for F11. Make the washing machine safe as below, don’t keep restarting it, and book an engineer.

Turn off the water and switch the appliance off

  1. Close the water supply tap to the appliance.
  2. Switch the appliance off. Only unplug it at the wall if the plug, socket and floor around it are dry. Otherwise switch it off at the consumer unit.
  3. Mop up water on the floor so nobody slips.

When to call an engineer

F11 needs an engineer. Once the washing machine is safe, contact Hotpoint or a qualified appliance engineer. Have the model and serial number from the rating label ready, and start with Hotpoint UK support.

Repair or replace?

F11 needs an engineer. Before you book, find the model number and purchase date. If it’s under warranty or an extended plan, contact Hotpoint first. Out of warranty, ask for a quote and weigh it against the age of the washing machine. We don’t publish repair prices because they vary by area, part and model.
