AEG Dishwasher i30 Error: Meaning, Causes & Safe Checks
Quick answer
AEG dishwasher i30 means water has collected in the base and the anti-flood device is on, so the drain pump may run constantly. Close the tap. Over-foaming or a spray arm blocked by a large item can cause it, so check those, then leave it off overnight to dry. If i30 returns, it may be an internal leak: book an AEG technician.
What i30 means on a AEG dishwasher
Water has collected in the base of the dishwasher and the anti-flood protection is active.
Applies to: AEG dishwashers. Models without a display beep or flash three times.
What you might notice
- The drain pump runs constantly with a hum
- Water around the dishwasher
- Three beeps or flashes
Likely causes
- Over-foaming, for example from washing-up liquid
- A large item blocking a spray arm or deflecting water onto the door seal
- Dirty filters, spray arms or sump
- Dirty or damaged door seal
- Dishwasher not level
- An internal leak
Why this isn’t a DIY job
Water in the base means it has escaped from inside the dishwasher, close to the anti-flood switch and other electrical parts. AEG’s checks are all things you can reach from the inside of the tub or the front. If i30 comes back once the base has dried out, the leak is internal and needs an AEG technician.
What you can safely check yourself
- The appliance reports water in its base (an anti-flood or AquaStop-type warning). Keep the water supply off and book an engineer.
- Water is leaking from inside the appliance or is near the plug or socket. Don’t touch the plug with wet hands or while standing in water. Switch off at the consumer unit instead.
- The code or problem comes back after you’ve done the safe checks on this page.
- The next step would mean removing a cover or panel, or working on the pump, valves, heater, motor, door lock or wiring. That is a job for a qualified engineer.
- The appliance is still under warranty. Contact the manufacturer first, because DIY work can affect your cover.
Work through these in order. Stop as soon as one of the signs above applies.
Turn off the water and switch the appliance off
- Close the water supply tap to the appliance.
- Switch the appliance off. Only unplug it at the wall if the plug, socket and floor around it are dry. Otherwise switch it off at the consumer unit.
- Mop up water on the floor so nobody slips.
Use dishwasher detergent only
- Washing-up liquid, or too much detergent, creates foam that can leak out of the door or trigger a leak warning.
- Use only products made for dishwashers. If foam built up, wipe out what you can and run an empty rinse.
Don’t: Never put washing-up liquid in a dishwasher.
Check the loading
- Make sure nothing stops the spray arms turning or blocks the detergent compartment lid.
- Leave space between items so water and heat reach every surface.
- Put heavily soiled pans in the lower basket, and cups and glasses in the upper basket.
- Scrape food off plates before loading.
Clean the dishwasher filters
- Switch off and unplug the appliance at the wall socket before you touch hoses, filters or the back of the machine. Make sure your hands and the plug area are dry.
- Wear protective gloves. Broken glass and sharp debris can collect in the filter and pump area, and it is hard to see.
- Take out the lower basket.
- Twist and lift the filter unit out of the base of the tub, then separate the parts as your manual shows.
- Rinse every part under running water. Use a soft brush for stubborn debris and nothing abrasive.
- Wipe food remains out of the sump area around the filter opening.
- Refit the filters so they lie flat and lock in position. On many models arrows line up when they are locked.
Don’t: Don’t run the dishwasher without the filters fitted.
Check the spray arms turn and aren’t blocked
- Switch off and unplug the appliance at the wall socket before you touch hoses, filters or the back of the machine. Make sure your hands and the plug area are dry.
- With the dishwasher switched off, turn each spray arm by hand. It should spin freely without hitting plates, pans or utensils.
- Look at the nozzle holes. Clear food or limescale with a cocktail stick or tweezers.
- If your manual shows how to remove the spray arms, rinse them through under the tap and refit them firmly.
Check the door seal is clean and undamaged
- Open the door and wipe food and grease off the rubber seal and the door edge.
- Look for splits, gaps or a seal that has come out of its groove.
- A damaged seal needs replacing with the correct part. Ask the manufacturer or an engineer.
Check the dishwasher is level
- Put a spirit level on the open door and the front edge of the tub. Your manual shows how to adjust the feet.
- On integrated dishwashers, check the furniture door panel is fitted securely. AEG says built-in models must not be used without it.
Don’t: Don’t pull a built-in dishwasher out of its housing to level it. Ask an installer.
Switch off at the wall and let it rest
- If the display shows a code, write it down first.
- Switch the appliance off and turn it off at the wall socket.
- Leave it off for the time your manual or the manufacturer suggests (see the note below if there is one), then switch on and try again.
For this fault: AEG: leave the dishwasher disconnected overnight with the water tap closed so the base can dry out, then reconnect and try again.
Don’t: Don’t repeat this over and over if the code keeps returning. That means there is a fault to diagnose.
When to call an engineer
If the checks above don’t clear i30, or any of the stop signs apply, contact AEG or a qualified appliance engineer. Have the model and serial number from the rating label ready, and start with AEG UK support.
Repair or replace?
Most i30 cases are cleared by the safe checks above. If they don’t help, the remaining causes are parts an engineer has to diagnose. We don’t publish repair prices because they vary by area, part and model.
