Hoover Washing Machine E02 Error: Meaning, Causes & Safe Checks
Quick answer
Hoover E02 (or E2) means the machine didn’t fill within 6 minutes, which often points to low water pressure. Unplug it, check the tap is on (without forcing a stiff valve) and the fill hose isn’t kinked, and do Hoover’s bucket test. On some models a blocked drain pump can also cause E02. Call a plumber if the supply is weak.
Also shown as E2
This code can mean different things on different model series. Check your manual, or Hoover UK support with your model number.
What E02 means on a Hoover washing machine
The machine hasn’t filled with water within about 6 minutes.
Applies to: Hoover washing machines and washer dryers on the model list in Hoover’s advice centre.
What you might notice
- The machine doesn’t fill
- E02 or E2 on the display
Likely causes
- Tap off, or a seized valve that doesn’t open inside
- Fill hose kinked or twisted
- Low water pressure to the house
- Blocked drain pump (some models)
What you can safely check yourself
- The code or problem comes back after you’ve done the safe checks on this page.
- A hose is split, bulging, cracked or leaking at the connection. Stop using the appliance until the hose is replaced.
- Water flow at the tap is too low, or the tap or valve is seized. That is a plumbing job for a plumber or your water supplier, not the appliance.
- The next step would mean removing a cover or panel, or working on the pump, valves, heater, motor, door lock or wiring. That is a job for a qualified engineer.
- The appliance is still under warranty. Contact the manufacturer first, because DIY work can affect your cover.
Work through these in order. Stop as soon as one of the signs above applies.
Make sure the water tap is fully open
- Find the isolation tap or valve on the pipe feeding the appliance, usually under the sink or behind the machine.
- Check it is turned fully on. On lever valves, “on” is usually when the lever lines up with the pipe.
- If other taps in the house have low pressure too, the problem may be the mains supply rather than the appliance.
Don’t: Don’t force a stiff or seized valve. It can break inside without opening.
Check the water inlet hose for kinks or damage Take care
- Switch off and unplug the appliance at the wall socket before you touch hoses, filters or the back of the machine. Make sure your hands and the plug area are dry.
- The appliance is heavy. Pull it out slowly, ideally with help, and don’t strain the hoses or the cable.
- With the machine unplugged, ease it forward far enough to see the hose behind it.
- Follow the inlet hose from the tap to the machine and straighten any kinks, sharp bends or places where it is squashed against the wall.
- Look along the hose for splits, bulges or drips at either connection.
Don’t: Don’t use the machine if the hose is damaged. Replace the hose first.
Check the water flow with a bucket test Take care
- Turn off the water supply tap to the appliance before disconnecting any hose.
- With the tap off, disconnect the inlet hose from the tap end (or use a nearby tap on the same supply).
- Hold the hose end in a bucket, or put the bucket under the tap, and turn the water on fully for a timed period.
- Compare what you collect with the figure in your manual or in the brand note below. A weak flow points to the supply, not the appliance.
- Reconnect the hose hand-tight and check for drips when the water is back on.
For this fault: Hoover: with the hose disconnected into a bucket, water should flow freely when the tap is on. Hoover also suggests a thumb test: slowly open a cold tap and try to stop the flow with your thumb. If you can, the pressure is too low and a plumber should investigate.
Clean the drain pump filter Take care
- Switch off and unplug the appliance at the wall socket before you touch hoses, filters or the back of the machine. Make sure your hands and the plug area are dry.
- Water inside can be hot after a hot wash. Wait for it to cool before opening a filter.
- Expect water to come out. Put towels and a shallow tray or baking dish down first.
- Never force a locked door, a stuck filter cap or a seized part. Forcing it usually causes more damage.
- Find the small flap at the bottom front of the machine. Your manual shows the exact location and whether there is a small emergency drain hose.
- With towels and a tray in place, release the water slowly, using the emergency hose if there is one, or by turning the filter cap a little at a time. Expect more water than you think, and empty the tray as often as you need to.
- When the water has stopped, unscrew the filter fully and remove fluff, coins, hair grips and other debris. Rinse it under the tap.
- Look into the opening to check the pump blade can turn freely. If you can see it, manufacturers suggest turning it gently with a pencil, never with your fingers.
- Refit the filter firmly in its locked position and close the flap. Check for drips the next time the machine runs.
For this fault: Hoover: on some models E02 can appear when the drain pump is blocked.
Don’t: Don’t reach in with fingers past the filter opening.
Don’t: Don’t open the filter while the machine is running or the water is hot.
When to call an engineer
If the checks above don’t clear E02, or any of the stop signs apply, contact Hoover or a qualified appliance engineer. Have the model and serial number from the rating label ready, and start with Hoover UK support.
Repair or replace?
Most E02 cases are cleared by the safe checks above. If they don’t help, the remaining causes are parts an engineer has to diagnose. We don’t publish repair prices because they vary by area, part and model.
